Big Mountain Skis
Big mountain skis are usually the choice of more aggressive skiers who feel confident in all conditions and speeds. Fatter and stiffer than the average powder ski, big mountain skis are used mostly off groomed trails. Some have less sidecut and a larger turn radius (such as the Bluehouse Shoots) so they ski straighter and faster. Big mountain skis are made to handle all off-trail skiing conditions, including deep powder, windblown snow, ice, crud, and spring corn. Because skiers who ride these types of skis are generally more aggressive or expert skiers, they are built to be stiffer and less playful to allow more control and stability when launching off cliffs, plowing through crud, skiing steeps, or cruising at speeds well beyond the comfort level of most skiers. Big mountain skis may come with some form of rocker or early rise on the tip or may have a more traditional shape and camber.
Within the Bluehouse line, the Bluehouse Maestro is on the softer end of the big mountain spectrum and has a twin tip and tail rocker. The Bluehouse Precinct has a stiffer, more traditional big mountain flex with traditional camber and a late stage tip and tail rocker that maximizes the running length of the ski. The Bluehouse Shoots and Radius each incorporate tip rockers and a flat tail into a stiff package, making for the ideal big mountain ski. These skis are often the choice for daily drives of western skiers who ski resorts with a lot of vertical.
