I was born into skiing. My dad patrolled at Park West (The Canyons) in the height of the 80s mustached-skier era. I owe all my early ski knowledge to him. I've had a season pass to one resort or another every year of my life since I was two years old. I never got into competitions like moguls or gate bashing. I just liked ripping around with friends when I was young. That was until I met the rowdiest skier I've ever known in 1998. "Big Air" Bear Payne told me to quit pussyfooting and drive to Whistler with him to compete in the world extreme skiing championships at Blackcomb. At the time, I was 19, and it changed the whole way at looking at skiing. I've been competing on and off ever since. I love it.
Lately I've turned my focus towards photos. I like the control factor of the photo shoot: finding an area to shoot and slaying it over, unlike in a comp where you have to huck no matter what the conditions are. With friends like Julian Carr and the late Billy Poole, guiding my way the past four years has been a great way to sharpen my skills. This last season, 08/09, was awesome. I finally joined the big-boy club when Julian helped me overcome my fear of hundred-foot airs. We attacked airs all over Utah for weeks tallying up some killer photos.
I owe some shouts to Will Wissman, Adam Clark, and Adam Barker. Thanks for helping the kid get published. Its not that easy getting photos published, it takes a
lot of hard work getting everything just right. I love the challenge though and hopefully this year it will pay off with some sick published shots.
I'm stoked on Bluehouse's 09-10 lineup. The guys behind Bluehouse are incredible and have made some amazing skis this year. I can't wait to get out there and huck on them. Whether it's charging hard for the camera or just goofing off with friends on a greybird pow day, I will always love to ski.
